Vaughan C. Shaw
1952 – 2025
We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Vaughan C. Shaw, who passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on April 5, 2025, at the age of 73.
Vaughan was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 43 years, Marion (née Bloem), and a dedicated and loving father to Adrienne and Taylor (Mark Cornett). Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Muriel, and his brother Wayne. He will be dearly missed by his sister Mary-Anne and brother Dallas.
Vaughan was born in Woodbridge and later made his home in Tottenham, Ontario. Vaughan began his career as a Certified Building Official in 1989 with King Township. He later brought his expertise and integrity to the City of Etobicoke and ultimately to the City of Toronto, where he retired in 2012.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Vaughan had a deep passion for life. He earned his pilot’s license at just 15 years old and had a lifelong love of flying, sailing, and power boating. His hobbies included woodworking, radio-controlled boats, building airplane models, and playing both the piano and organ.
Vaughan was a man full of stories who always knew how to bring laughter to any room. He will be remembered for his warmth, his wit, and above all, his immense kindness.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and unforgettable memories.
Vaughan will forever remain in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please check back to the Funeral Home website as details become available. To the Shaw Family,
My deepest condolences to you ALL. I spent many years sitting beside Vaughan, we chatted about so many things, we huffed and puffed about odd complaints and had outbursts laughter with so many things that took place. There were times I came into work tired and grumpy. Vaughan would always say “aaahhh what’s the matter”. When we would out for coffee, and I would say, I got to go. Vaughan would say to me “sit down relax Thomas”.
When Vaughan retired, it was a big void and I was saddened because there was this empty chair that was unoccupied. On his last day I remember him saying “don’t worry you are next”; I laughed and sure enough years later I retired and thought of his words.
We met occasionally, after I retired, I joined the monthly retirement coffee table with other Etobicoke Officers. I always had to leave earlier than the group, Vaughan would say “Thomas Thomas Thomas, still the same after all these years” referencing for me to sit down and relax. -Thank you Vaughan for the memories we shared……..
