Patricia McGuire
April 13, 1924 – December 4, 2023
For Mom, life was about relationships – all you need is love. Here is an abridgement of her loving relationships:
Daughter of Martha (d.) and William Lee (d.). Mom was born in Hamilton, ON. The 3 of them travelled across Canada from when Mom was 6 months old until they sailed from Halifax when she was 10 with 3 younger siblings included. They went to England for Grandfather’s businesses. Her horse there was named Joey. She rode him across the fens of Dymchurch. And, she rode on an elephant at the London Zoo.
Big Sister to William (d.), Robert (d.), Elizabeth and Traylee (d.) Ten years younger than Mom, Elizabeth resides in Kent, England. Proud Canadian, she served in the Canadian Woman’s Army Core in England from 1943-1945. In her Company, although she was a Private, they called her General Lee. She was posted in London. She added driving a jeep to her modes of transport.
Wife of Allan Douglas McGuire (d. 1984). Dad came back to Canada ahead of Mom. He was in Midland training Naval Cadets for a war on the seas of the Pacific when the end of the WWII was announced. Mom followed from England and landed in Halifax; she was back home in Canada. The rest of her “hops
across the pond” would be by airplane. A time for peace and family began. Mom had been skeptical that Dad was from a family of 9 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter, Thelma Patricia (Micky) became Mom’s lifelong friend. Marrying Dad meant that she gained Hugh(d.) and Roselena (d.) as wonderful parents, and, membership in the McGuire Clan. Of Dad’s siblings, Paul McGuire resides in Schomberg, ON. One sister-in-law survives Mom too. Susan McGuire resides in Montreal, QC
Mother of Lee & Shirley (nee Guitar); Mark; Patricia & Kenneth Taylor; Susan; Willieann & Philip Laven; Allan; Molly; and, Kelly (d.1977). Mom travelled extensively with her children. She rode a camel when she was 65.
Grandmother of Dylan & Jody (nee Swift); Daniel & Karly (nee Klinkoff); Kenneth Taylor; Katrina Taylor (d.2020); Simon Laven; and, Emily (nee Laven) & Kevin Griffiths. Who mostly knew her as a refined granny. Although there was that one incident in the Winnebago in Las Vegas where Kenneth’s practical joke really backfired.
Great Grandmother of Aidan & lan; Liam; Jenna, Jessie & Ethan Taylor – de Beau; and Zia & Elodie Griffiths. The very old with the very young, Mom loved babies.
McGuire Clan matriarch to the many nieces and nephews.
Friend to many who have gone ahead of her and are now visiting in the hereafter. Friend to some who are here. And look forward to being reunited with Mom in the hereafter. One calls her Auntie Mame, others call her a remarkable lady. Was it mentioned that she considered riding in a helicopter as the most exciting ride?
If you want to do something in Mom’s memory, let those you are in a relationship with know you love them. She would want you to be kind to yourself and believe that you are always loved.
In Patricia’s memory, donations to Sick Kid’s Hospital would be appreciated. To The McGuire Family,
I was standing on the lawn with Mrs. McGuire (Rose) when Pat and Allan arrived on the Grey Coach Bus. (my father Bob Moody drove that bus for 30 years -we lived up the street in the yellow house)
Your Aunt, Thelma, was on her horse and they fell on the paved road in front of the bus. ( no caulks on his shoes, we just rode on the fields)
What a welcome to Schomberg for Patricia who was the sweetest most beautiful bride.
I am still not over losing your Aunt Thelma Donnelly. We were great neighbours and friends.
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
A note to Mark: Thank you so much for being so kind to Marg Tough. She really appreciated your blueberry pie.

Kelly McGuire says
What a perfect tribute that captures so well your mother’s unique, independent, and loving spirit. She passed all of these gifts on to her children and somehow found time for us all. My dad (John McGuire) loved and respected Aunt Pat fiercely. Deepest sympathies.
Jacqueline (Conlan), Tony, Leighton Costanzo says
Blessings and condolences to all the family and friends of Patricia McGuire.
A great soul may have departed, but your memories of your mother’s love will never fade. May you continue find peace in the love and sympathy of the people who greatly loved and cherished your mother. You will forever be grateful for the strength and healing each one of your memories provide and you will find comfort in knowing your life was enriched by having shared your mother’s love and life with her for as long as you did.
Allen, in my few interactions with you when my own parents passed away, and through all your respectful, kindhearted and helpful ways during that time, I have no doubt your mother left behind a family that resembles her.
Sending healing prayers, caring thoughts and the following poem for comfort in the days and months ahead.
The Rose Still Grows Beyond the Wall
Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God’s free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall,
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength,
With never a thought of fear or pride.
It followed the light through the crevice’s length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before;
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve,
And make our courage faint or fail?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive:
The rose still grows beyond the wall.
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will for evermore.

Our deepest condolences to the McGuire family. Pat and Al and Leslie and Josephine Brazier were good friends and they had alot of fun together. I remember as a child, walking to Pat and Al’s on the Lloydtown road and Dad would pick Mom and I up after his work.
I also remember Pat had a distinct way of saying my Dad’s name, Llleess, I thought it sounded so cool. Joan and I also remember a beautiful letter that Al wrote to our father regarding our mother after Mom died. I remember Dad cried reading it. I’m sure there’s lots of good ole card games going on in heaven now. May the memories of your beloved Mother help to heal your sorrow at this sad time. Janis and Mike
