My sincere condolences to John’s family. I have known John and his lovely family for 50yrs. I first met John when I was only 15yrs old and bought my very first horse from him. Of course John found me the perfect horse. I continued to buy many more horses from him over the years. His lovely daughter Kim years later, tutored my son Brent French. Life got busy and we would see each other now and again. I guess the last time I saw John was right before he moved to Riverside. I was hoping to visit him but of course the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I work in the ICU in London Ontario and we continue to work through our 6th wave. I had just mentioned to my other half that we will have to make the trip to Alliston so I can visit John. I went to Kim’s Facebook to see if there were any updates on John, only to find out that he had passed away. Forever my favourite cowboy. R.I.P. John Mackenzie

Our condolences to Kim and the family, John was an amazing person with an enormous amount of knowledge that he was more than willing to share. He helped with my OTTB who had a fused fetlock and couldn’t walk without limping, John came to see us and said go get this specific set of shoes right now! We went and got them and John put them on and there was never a limp again, anyone else that tried could never stop the limp except John! We bought our beautiful mare Annie from Kim and John, she passed away a month ago here at home with her herd at the amazing age of 29! Our hearts go out to all of you❤️

So saddened by the passing of John, a long time friend and a great cowboy.
I spent 25 years going to rodeos with John and he was always there to help and advise me, and made me become the horseman I wanted to be.
I am glad that he was a large part of my life.

My sincere condolences to Johns family, his many friends, and all those who knew John over the years. John was an incredible person that mentored many and gave everyone a chance. He was a great friend. Years ago when I asked him to help me pick out a horse he refused. He said once you buy a house then I’ll help you find a horse. This was great advise as he always wanted people to think about their future. I will miss you John as will many others. But you’ll never be forgotten. RIP John

On behalf of our family. Our condolences to the Mackenzie. John did so much work for my Mom and Dad back during the 1970’s. I personally remember John Roping on Sugar Joe Reed as we were driving towards an AQHA Supreme Championship. As well John was Mom and Dads Blacksmith and i remember him sweating up a storm in the barn shoeing many horses.
John always took his time to say hi and talk to us kids back then. I remember going out to his farm a few times and of course horses were every where. John looked like a movie star and i am sure if here were in California he might have been one.
Rest in Piece John and i know you will be having some laughs with Roy and Joan and telling tall tails of the past.

John was a great horseman who was always willing to lend an ear and share his advice. John was also a good friend, hard worker and a fearless cowboy, with a reputation for being able to handle the toughest of horses….and he did! I’ll always be grateful for the knowledge he shared.

I can’t even begin to tell you all what Mac meant to me. I was 11yrs old first time I meant him. It was 1960, at the Diamond T ranch. He taught me how to be tougher and how to do everything. How to train and understand horses, how to rope and bulldog.
If I had tell Mac’s story to someone I would say see the movie. The Cowboys, that was John and I was on of the boys.
Kelly MacKay says

Dear Family
I have not seen John in years but I fondly remember spending the best part of a summer, I think in 1963 or 64, at the ranch near Malton. I had such a wonderful time and learned a lot from this wonderful man, including the value of a good work ethic.
May God ease your pain and bring you nothing but the fondest of memories.
