I fist met George through the Achill choir as a founding member as well. He was a gentle and caring man with a great sense of humour. I enjoyed his company travelling to the sectional practices and on the several Choir Concert Tours overseas. He will be greatly missed.
Condolences to George’s family.

As a member of the Beeton Lawn Bowling Club, George was an excellent mentor in teaching me the in and outs of the green maintenance and the usage and maintenance of the related equipment. Always friendly, helpful. We shared many a laugh as he give me “heck” because the cut on the green wasn’t straight. :). He will be missed.

I first met George at choir. I loved listening to his voice behind me. I also loved his murmured comments that always made me laugh. I was always so glad to see him at concerts, to have the chance for a hug and a smile. Your family was blessed to have him and I feel blessed to have known him.

Our sincere condolences to the Mara Family. We were founding members along with George of the Achill Choral Society & soon came to love this dear, gentle man with a twinkle in his eye & an endearing sense of humour. He also had a marvellous bass voice. At some of the church dinners George & Herb would see who could the most pie. They stopped at 4 or 5 pieces each!!! He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

I first met George when I joined the Achill Choral Society also as one of the founding members. He was always the gentleman and his keen sense of humour never ceased to make us all laugh. Especially at the times when it was needed most. I always looked forward to a chat with him when he came to our concerts after he retired. I will miss him.

I called Mr. Mara either Mr. Mara or Dad. His home was my second home as his daughter Sandy was and still is my best friend. Mr. Mara taught me what sarcastic humour was. When I was little he would say something to me and I wouldn’t know if he was serious or kidding, I learned to see the twinkle in his eye to know that he was just teasing me. My thoughts and memories go out to Mr. Mara’s family.

Our condolences to George’s Family.
Our daughter, Sheri Sallows, gave George the nickname
“Mr. Lovely” 7 plus years ago & it suited him. He was a true gentleman & will be missed. Enjoyed our chats in the IGA in Beeton & afterwards when we had retired. Always charming.

So sorry to hear of your father’s passing – such a kind gentleman. George and Winnie were so good to our mother, Muriel Cox, when she spent time in Newmarket Hospital with Winnie as a roommate – their kindnesses to mom will be remembered always.
