At Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston, on Sunday, March 20th, 2005. George Bateman of Loretto, in his 85th year, beloved husband of the late Olive Boag. Loving father of Carol Clifford-Smith and her husband Richard Smith of Bolton and the late Judith Van Slois (Mike Smyth) of Calgary. Sadly missed by his 4 grandchildren Barry, Stacey, Leeanne, Thalia and his 5 great-grandchildren Zachary, Alex, Zoe, Nolan and Benjamin. Dear brother of Margaret Bedford of Penticton, B.C., Jean Casson of Regina, Saskatchewan and the late Mae Simpson.
The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, 905-936-3477 from 7-9 pm Friday March 25th, 2005. Memorial service will be held in the chapel 11:00 am Saturday March 26th, 2005.

Unfortunately, I did not get to know my uncle well as he lived a long way away but he always struck me as some one who I could really relate to. I remember him as being hard-working, independent and fun-loving.

It was so very special to have Uncle George come out to Penticton last fall and spend time with his sisters and us.
Due to the physical distance, we children never got to know our uncle very well. But last fall, my husband and I were able to get to know him and hear about the good ol’ days of growing up, the war days overseas, his months in Kelowna following the war and his transition to Toronto and becoming a married man. I just wish we could have known him sooner. He was a very special man and
