Dear Karen, Edward and the Haley family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear father, father-in-law, grandfather and treasured blessing in your lives.
I knew Mr. Haley as a child when I lived in Cookstown. My parents were good friends with Mr. & Mrs. Haley, and I remember visiting them, Karen and Edward in their Alliston home across the street from St. Paul’s Elementary School and church.
I remember Mr. Haley as being rather short, but there’s a great Polish saying that fits him very well: “Small in stature, great in spirit” (“Maly wzrostem, wielki duchem”). I also remember Mr. Haley knowing French. Once he and the family visited us in Mattawa (near northern Ontario). The fishing was great, and my dad took us out. When, sitting the boat on the wide river, I asked Mr. Haley the French word for water, he replied “eau.” I couldn’t, wouldn’t believe that such a simple sound sufficed for something like water. One example of nothing but fond memories of a fine, upstanding, good-humoured Christian man.
May God grant him Memory Eternal, and May you feel His presence in your time of sorrow.
