Davis: Charlotte, Elizabeth
Peacefully at Matthews House Hospice, Alliston, Ontario, on June 28, 2022. Elizabeth Davis(nee: Hopper) at the age of 98 years, beloved wife of the late Richard “Ritchie “Davis. Loving mother of Allen, and Michael (Julie). Loving grandmother of Sondra (Glenn Lorentz), and Kirsti. Dear great grandmother of Emmett and Maren. Sadly miss by her sister Eleanor Meharg (the late Robert), and predeceased by her brother David Hopper (the late Shirley). Forever in the hearts of her cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
There were many chapters in her Life Story. She grew up and spent most of her life in the Tottenham area. As part of her working career she spent a brief time in a drafting office, obtained her teacher’s certification, then started out as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse and spent many years teaching in the public school system in the Tottenham area. She raised a family with her husband Ritchie on the Davis family farm, and was secretary at a university for a few years and many more opportunities along the way. Her interests were quite numerous, including a passionate love for music and playing the piano, organizing and being a part of many family reunions and gatherings, camping with her brother and sister’s families at Sibbald Point Provincial Park, playing bridge with her many friends, crocheting, going to theatre productions, visits to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the Toronto Art Gallery, travels to many different areas of Canada and some tours to places around the world to name a few. She was an excellent cook and baker and sometimes won ribbons at the local Fall Fairs for her baking and canning and preserves. She was also a 4-H Group Leader. Her two Granddaughters were a very special part of her life, and even though it was only for a short time there were two Great Grandchildren that were an additional joy as well. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday August 25, 2022 at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, Tottenham from 9:30am until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Mount Tegart Cemetery. For those who wish, donations would be appreciated to Matthews House Hospice Alliston or Simcoe Manor Beeton, Ontario. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

My condolences to family and friends, on the loss of such a wonderful human. Aunt Elizabeth is what I called her, related as family friends only. I recall her with great fondness, we were neighbours for many years, she was always so kind to my family, I was a child when I knew her the most, living across the road, I recall every Easter the delivery of an Easter Lily to our home and many visits down the lane to her home, always an offering of some baked good and a warm smile. I also remember on many occasions the cows getting out and how everyone took care of each other. 98 years!! Wow, how wonderful the time you’ve had with a long life. May the memories of your mom, grandmother and great grandmother, bring ease to your hearts.

Hopper’s small department store was for many years a most happy place to visit and shop. Above the store was the apartment where Elizabeth grew up. Elizabeth’s father, Norris ( Dewy ) in trout season was up before dawn, and often bringing his catch and wild mushrooms back for breakfast. Mrs. Hopper always amazed us by arriving at the pond swimming hole, and plunging in like a dolphin on hot, humid summer evenings. The whole family were just what makes a village a wonderful place to grow up.
Elizabeth taught public school when my mother Jean Emigh was principal. I often thought that mother did some match- making between Ritchie Davis, whose family was the backbone of Christ Church Anglican. If so, her designs worked, and Elizabeth became the ideal farmer’s wife,
a loving mother, an informed naturalist, and a welcoming hostess.
her designs worked! Elisabeth became the skilled farmer’s wife on the Davis Century Farm – a loving mother, an informed naturalist and a most welcoming hostess.

Allen, Michael and Julie and family. There are not words anyone can say to fit the loss of your beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Elizabeth was a very special person and I was fortunate to have known her through many years at the bridge table and on the farm picking leeks in the woods, vegetables and rhubarb in the garden and chatting in the kitchen over tea and goodies. She will be missed by all who knew her. Sincerest condolances Anne Rolph

Ian and I send our sincere condolences to all of Elizabeth’s family. Ian’s fondest memory of Elizabeth is the year she spared for him in our mixed Bridge Club and they won 2nd Place Trophy. ( He said SHE really won it!) Elizabeth was a part of my ladies’ Bridge Club for many years. We loved when Elizabeth hosted because her desserts were DELICIOUS! I loved spending time with Elizabeth because of her humour, our conversations about books we’d read, the many varieties of birds she and Alan saw in their garden, her memories of places she’d travelled and because she was just such a great person. She also told me all about Michael and Julie and her beautiful granddaughters. She was so excited when Emmet and Maren were born. She proudly showed me photos of both of them. I’ll miss talking to Elizabeth.

To Allan, Michael and family.
Sorry to hear of Elizabeth’s passing, she was a good neighbor, teacher and 4H leader in my years of growing up on the 5th line. When we were at her house she always wanted me to play something for her on the piano, she would just sit there and absorb what ever I played always encouraging. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

As a member of The Church of the Evangelists (formerly Christ Church) Tottenham, I would like to express my sympathy to the family. Elizabeth was a member of our congregation for many years and I treasure the memory of our visits at the farm & at Simcoe Manor. We shared an interest in birds and flowers and she was a member of our walking group. She is now at home with her Lord. Rest in His presence, Elizabeth. ❤️
Margo & John Cooney says
Elizabeth was a lovely, gracious lady who had a wonderful sense of humour, a beautiful smile and radiated a gentle kindness to all she met. We have known Elizabeth for many years and have never heard her utter an unkind word about anyone or anything. She found the light in life and shared it with all of us. She will be greatly missed throughout our community and beyond.

Sincere condolences to the family. Our father had many good times and light hearted discussions with Ritchie and Elizabeth over the years. They even staged a potato on a
spoon race at TPS in their early 70’s and both refused for the most part to act their age.
Another of the Tottenham remarkable citizens has left us.
Lori Richards says
Dear Allen,Michael and family
Words cannot express how much your mother meant to me. Even though I had not seen her the last few years she never left my heart or mind. We had so much fun doing skits with her and planning meetings and parties at Fraser Church. She always was smiling with that little smirk. She was such an easy going fun loving spirit and a true inspiration and source of joy to all who knew her. My heartfelt sympathy to all the family . Heaven has most certainly one more angel.
