
HALEY, Sister Kathleen, School Sister of Notre Dame
Passed away on August 1, 2023 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, Ontario, age 91 in the 73 rd year as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Predeceased by her parents John and Catherine(Burns) Haley and her brothers Thomas(infant), Patrick, Anthony, Brother Nicholas CssR, James, Wilfrid, Richard, John and Frank (July24, 2023) and her sister Margaret(infant).
Fondly remembered by the members of her religious community and her sisters Elizabeth Jane and Catherine Sheehan and devoted nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Hamilton Teachers’ College Sister Kathleen taught at St. Helen’s School, Hamilton, Sacred Heart School, Kitchener and St. Mary’s School, Owen Sound. In 1960 she was appointed principal at Sacred Heart School, Walkerton, and in 1962 at St. Leo’s School, Kitchener. In 1966 she returned to St. Mary’s School, Owen Sound as principal. Then, Sister Kathleen was librarian at Sacred Heart and St. Anne’s Schools, Kitchener and at St. Clements School, Cambridge. In 1976 she moved to Beardmore, Ontario and taught at St. Theresa’s School. In 1980 she transferred to Pine Point, Northwest Territories where she taught religious education at the public school. Fort Smith, Northwest Territories was her next home, where she taught religious education at St. Joseph School from 1988 – 1992. The following year she lived in Dryden, Ontario and was involved in pastoral ministry at St. Joseph Parish. In 1993 she moved to Hamilton, Ontario and assisted in the marriage tribunal for the Hamilton diocese until 1997. She, also, was a member of the catechetical correspondence team for the Hamilton diocese until 2009. Sister Kathleen was with her family grieving the death of her brother, Frank, when she suddenly took ill and had emergency surgery at the hospital. Both her family and her religious community are mourning her unexpected death.
Visitors are welcome at School Sisters of Notre Dame, Waterdown on Friday August 4, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. The Rite of Remembrance will be on Friday afternoon at 2:30p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Burlington, Ontario.
