Lane: Mary Elizabeth,
It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that early Sunday morning Mary Lane passed away. She is survived by her husband Ken Staring, daughter Danielle Staring, son Ryan Olivier, brother Scott Lane, and mother Margaret Lane. She’d been fighting ovarian cancer for 2 years, and fight she did. These past few weeks with Mom have been wonderful, full of art projects and movies. She was her happy and sassy self, going so far as to call the family at home and check up on us every once and a while.
Mary was an incredibly special person. She dedicated her life to teaching and filling the world with beautiful things. She was always there if you needed her with kind words or a cup of tea. Even when she was having a difficult time she wanted everyone to know how much she loved them, and how much she appreciated all the flowers, cards, messages, and visits she received while at the hospital.
We as a family want to thank everyone as well. Your support and kind words mean the world to us. We want everyone to remember Mary as the loving, amazing, talented person she was. A small private ceremony was held. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be at 2:00 pm on March 25th, 2017 at Beeton Trinity United Church, 37 Centre Street North in Beeton. Anyone is welcome to drop in and celebrate the life of Mary Lane with food and good conversation. Arrangements entrusted to Rod Abrams Funeral Home Tottenham.
“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of Me.

My wife and I were saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. My sister and Mary were long-time friends and, as fate would have it, became short-term roommates in the Southlake hospital cancer ward. Although my wife and I only had the pleasure of knowing her for a very short while, we were enamoured by her positive attitude and are most thankful for the caring support and positive message she conveyed to my sister. “Rather than laying there thinking of how bad you feel, why don’t we change the mood by playing some backgammon!”
I know that her family already knows this but just to reiterate; Mary was one very special lady.

I will always remember Mary having a big personality, great sense of humour, a crafty style about herself and a fantastic memory! Thinking of the family and her best friend during this sad time. Big hugs!
