Lorna Ruth Simpson (Dove)
After a long battle with C.O.P.D Lorna with difficulty took her last breath on January 6, 2024 in her 83rd year. She went out with the fight she was known for by making sure the hospital staff knew exactly what she wanted. Wife to the late Donald Simpson, Mother, Grandma, Aunt and friend to many.
Daughters Leanne (Kevin) McTaggart and Cheryl Simpson. Her grandchildren Leslee, Brent and Rebecca Clark, her brothers the late Wayne (Mary) Dove and Kevin (Kathy) Dove, In-laws Joan (Bob) Griffith, the late Douglas (Cecilia) Simpson and many nieces, nephews and many cousins will miss her bluntness, humour and telling us how it is.
Growing up in Schomberg she could be found looking after her brothers or working at Dove’s Meat Market. She met her late husband Don on a blind date and the joke was often jokingly said he mainly stayed for the meat. Lorna and Don loved their pool parties, inviting many to enjoying the fun, sun, BBQ and corn roasts. She loved her country music and could kick up her heels and let loose on the dance floor.
During her career she worked as a Bookkeeper at Lovell Drugs in Oshawa and Master Feeds in Port Perry. She finally found her crew at Whitby Mental Health Centre where she retired from. Running joke in our household was if she took her name tag off at work, she would fit right in.
Lorna was a friend to all and a trip to the grocery store was often hours long as she would need to talk to everyone she knew. Her colourful language and outspokenness have got-ten her in Facebook Jail a few times over the years which she wore like a badge of honour. Protective of those she considered family and friends, she would give them the shirt off her back to help but put some cards in her hand and all bets are off being a card shark that she was and fiercely competitive at a card table. She will be joining the antics happening at the card table with Luella Dove, Gordon Logan and Ora Piersey. Our fondest memories in our childhood were listening to the 4 of them play cards, we smile now knowing the bickering has begun once again.
Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Interment Service will be held at Trinity Cemetery Beeton on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 1pm. Followed by a Celebration of Lorna’s Life at Rod Abrams Funeral Home “Cliffside Hall” 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham, from 1:30- 3:30pm with a time of spoken family remembrances at 2pm .
